Part 62: Trouble In Paradise

Having explored the island, Sam turns his attention to getting the Essences for the new Scroll. First: fishing.

Eee! ... I feel mildly guilty about this.

Only the cutest of fish exist on Cutopia.

And there's the fish we need!

Sam also fishes up this Scroll, miraculously undamaged by the water.

Mining on Cutopia nets us Silver, Gold, and Red Crayons. I... don't make this stuff up.

We can dig up Cake! Also Amber and Jade. But... Cake!

Oh, hey, Sam hit a jackpot! A jackpot is a lucky rare strike with the treasure finder; on most islands, the jackpot is a whole bunch of Simoleons. Here, it's Simoleons, Sapphires...

... and another new Scroll!

Forcing a weeding chain on Cutopia is relatively tough business. Weeds aren't cute, you know, so there aren't handy clumps of them growing anywhere; Sam has to run all over the island as fast as he can in order to maintain the chain. The results aren't even exciting: Cherry Blossoms, Cake, Red Crayons, Mana.

Anyway, that's that. Let's get our cute on.

: Oh, this stuff looks so cool!

If you could call it that. Sam gets a Flower Barrel, a Candy Pillow, a Fruit Basket, a Bunny stuffed animal, a Flower Cabinet, a Corner Fountain, some Soda Pop Paint, and some Spiral Paint.

Here are the other Scrolls we've found, one in a chest, one in the water, one underground. Man alive.

Daniel doesn't seem happy about it, though.

Here's the castle, or at least as much of it as I can pull the camera back to show you. We're supposed to decorate the front courtyard here.

Given that the Duchess wants Cute and Natural, Sam is definitely putting down some flowerbeds. They give two of each!

Once we put down a flower cabinet, Sam can put flowers on it. Shocking, I know. Those are the flower barrels next to the sunflower.

Some slightly-crooked jardinieres, some roses...

And then we'll paint everything Butterflies.

Fabulous.

: Thank you so much, Sam. I think the courtyard will satisfy even my mother now.

Daniel heads around behind the castle and starts fretting about something else. Sam sighs internally and follows.

: Thanks for coming, Sam.

: ... Queen Bebe's prize-winning bunny Flumperella.

: Anyway, they're quite rowdy today because of the festival, and they've gotten a little disheveled.

...

Good fluffing. Right.

Anyway! These are tame bunnies, so they'll follow Sam if he gets close. Sam can pick them all up on a lazy circuit of the island.

... oh my gosh

Sam is covered in bouncing bunnies and they're making squeaky flumpy noises eeee

Ahem. Anyway. Millicent, Alistair, and Penelope will gladly follow Sam into their little hedge enclosure and settle down there.

Now we need to, uh, fluff the bunnies.

c'mere you little rascal you

The bunny leaps into Sam's arms and Sam literally fluffs it up like a pillow.

Laughing and crooning baby talk, Sam fluffs up all three bunnies.

And now that everything's been made all nice and cute, it's party time!

The guests are all talking amongst themselves, except for Daniel, who's looking around anxiously, and Spencer, who appears to be asleep.

: Hello, Violet!

Violet turns to look at the decorations outside the castle.

: You did a wonderful job setting up the festival. What's this all for, again?

: Oh, well, it's the National Cutopia Awareness Day Festival, a traditional ceremony we hold every year to help raise awareness about Cutopia's... traditions.

And they both giggle, aw. Once the giggle fit winds down:

: So why do you keep having it?

: Well, it's still fun to get everyone together, I guess. Also, my mom is a real stickler for tradition. Anything that's different she immediately dislikes.
